Customs clearance of Chinese electric cars (new and used) in Europe consists of several steps. In Lithuania they issue transit license plates for three months, which will allow you to drive your car safely in the EU until registration.

After customs clearance in Lithuania, you need to bring the car to the country of final destination. Let's say you live in Warsaw, so from Lithuania you need to come to Poland. You go through the customs clearance procedure again in Poland, attach the necessary documents and confirm the payment of the tax fees you paid in Lithuania.

In fact, the costs can vary significantly depending on many factors. For example, the condition of the car (new or used) and the specific make of the vehicle affect the tax rates for customs clearance. Let's briefly look at an example if you want to clear a Chinese Geely electric car.

Among the costs you should expect to pay VAT (21%) and customs payment CŁO (10%). You will have to spend about 500 euros more on transit plates, registration fees and technical inspection. However, if the factory does not provide you with a certificate of conformity, the costs can be much higher.

Chinese electric cars are considerably cheaper than their European counterparts, so you may be interested in running a dealership, reselling cars already in the EU. However, in this case things will be a little more complicated.

Today there is dumping, which can reach up to 35%. For each Chinese company that produces electric cars, this percentage is different.
